Gochhikar emerges Champion of Champions

Odisha’s Anil Kumar Gochhikar emerged Champion of Champions in the 12th Eastern & North Eastern India Bodybuilding Championship, which concluded at Kapileswar High School ground here on Sunday. He won the title in the 70kg weight category.

Six other bodybuilders bagged titles in different weight categories. Around 150 competitors from West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and Odisha participated in the two-day championship, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 1.1 lakhs. Gochhikar, who hails from Puri, received Rs 10,000 along with the Champion of Champions trophy.

State Forest and Environment Minister Debi Prasad Mishra and Eastern India Bodybuilding Association secretary Janu Majumdar handed over the trophy and prizes at the closing function. Hosts Kapileswar Yuba Parishad president Suresh Kumar Routray and Odisha Amateur Bodybuilding Association secretary Prasanna Kumar Mahasuara were present on the occasion.

RESULTS: 55kg: 1. Sujit Roy (North Bengal), 2. Sanjay Sahu (Odisha), 3. S Krishnarao (Odisha). 60kg: 1. Balao Khan (Odisha), 2. Debakanta Mandal (WB), 3. Shuvakanta Malia (Odisha). 65kg: 1. Prasanjit Das (WB), 2. Balakrishna Bag (Odisha), 3. Niranjan Sahu (Odisha). 70kg: 1. Anil Gochhikar (Odisha), 2. Dhiraj Rajabanshi (Assam), 3. Sangram Munda (Odisha). 75kg: 1. Jitesh Dash (Odisha), 2. S Nandi (WB), 3. Amit Kumar Bhuyan (Odisha). 80kg: 1. Akash Sahani (WB), 2. Satya Prakash Pradhan (Odisha), 3. Rupak Biswas (Tripura). 85kg: 1. Jaya Prakash Behera (Odisha), 2. Niranjan Behera (Odisha), 3. Swayam Siddhant Harichandan (Odisha).
